Acá y Allá un viaje sonoro en vaivén entre dos costas de un mismo mar es una instalación sonora que explora otro tipo de escuchas, utilizando el audio del mar de acá (Trópico Colombiano) y del mar de allá (Europa) como base de lo que es común y parecido entre los territorios. Navegando de allá para acá y en gradiente -tiempos, ritmos, frecuencias e intensidades- van tejiendo un puente sonoro y, en esa exploración se hacen explícitos los cambios acústicos de estas dos orillas que transitan entre América y Europa.

Obra seleccionada para participar en la categoría Experiencias Sonoras desde el Arte en el marco del Segundo Congreso Colombiano de Bioacústica & Ecoacústica a celebrarse en la ciudad de Medellín entre el 18 y el 22 de noviembre.

La obra fue seleccionada para hacer parte de la quinta versión de la Bienal RƎEXISTENCIAS organizada por Animal Simbólico con el apoyo del Museo Colonial de Bogotá. Exposición que tuvo lugar entre el 12 de octubre y el 3 de diciembre de 2023.

Museo Descolonial

El lugar escogido para hacer la intervención sonora, fue el conocido como El Puente ubicado entre la Sala 1 y la Sala 2 de la exhibición permanente del museo. Este puente propone la experiencia del viajar a través del océano.

El viaje sonoro inicia en las costas de Europa

 

El visitante es recibido con un texto que contextualiza el viaje y a medida que avanza es invitado a sumergirse en los sonidos de la costa europea.

 

 

A medida que avanza el visitante-navegante se va adentrando a la mitad del espacio de la sala de exposición así como a los audios correspondientes al mar abierto.

 
Paulatinamente el visitante-navegante se va acercando a la otra orilla y al hacerlo los audios se van transformando por aquellos correspondientes a la costa del trópico del continente Americano, específicamente a las costas del caribe.

 

La obra tuvo una activación donde se invito a los visitantes a intervenir la obra luego de realizar una escucha atenta.

Colectivo Viaje Sonoro

Al público asistente le fue explicado en que consiste un espectrograma (que era la imagen que estaba ubicada en el suelo de la exposición) y como este puede ser leído.

 

Luego se procedió a escuchar de manera colectiva los audios y luego ubicar sobre los espectrogramas -ayudado de unos adhesivos- la fuente sonora correspondiente.

Soundscapes of places visited by Alexander von Humboldt & Aimé Bonpland in the Magdalena Valley and the Sabana de Bogotá in present-day Colombia.

El proyecto visito tres lugares en Colombia: el Salto de Tequendama en el Departamento de Cundinamarca, una cascada natural que cae 157 metros con aguas del río Bogotá y que esta rodeada de bosque andino. Pandi y el Puentes Natural de Icononzo en el Departamento del Tolima, puente en piedra natural sobre el cañón del río Sumapaz  y, por último la ciudad de Honda, que fue el primer puerto fluvial de Colombia.

Luego de revisitar tres de los lugares recorridos en 1801 por el alemán Alexander von Humboldt y el francés Aimé Bonpland, hemos grabado sus paisajes sonoros y paralelamente luego de la lectura de los diarios de los viajeros hemos recreado los paisajes sonoros de estos sitios como debieron escucharse en 1801. Como resultado es posible escuchar y comparar temporalmente los tres lugares en dos temporalidades distintas: 1801 y 2022.

Se realizaron grabaciones en campo con grabadoras que nos permitieron audios monofonicos, en estéreo y en 360.

In October 2019, the project won a grant to support artistic creation and research projects from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá - Colombia.

SR10 exposes through a sound and visual composition processed by economic data the results of the implementation of the guaranteed basic income model in a group of 729 low-income families in rural areas of the states of Iowa and North Carolina, in a period 3 years *. In addition to the labor aspects involved, the experiment also analyzed other aspects such as family stability, the various forms of consumption and school performance of children and adolescents.Through the use of sound and visual tools, SR10 reflects the collision of nature and technology, and how this disruption can lead to new ways of conceptualizing society.

The piece seeks to extend the reflection of the economic impact that the introduction of applications that combine technologies with systems that integrate the use of artificial intelligence has had in both rural and urban areas. The resolution of problems together with the automation of certain processes has changed the rules of the game for many jobs previously in the domain of human hands, the speed of these changes implies uncertainty in the jobs that will be offered in the future. For this reason, discussions on the implementation of universal basic income or UBI as a system that allows citizens to have their basic needs covered met, so as to concentrate on living and not in surviving.

The piece was selected within the curator-ship of the exhibition Auris Mundus exhibited in Espacio Odeón in Bogotá.

The Auris Mundus exhibition was in turn selected within the curatorship of the big exhibition Que no cunda el pánico (¿hay otras maneras?).

SR10 expone a través de una composición sonora y visual procesada por datos económicos los resultados de la implementación del modelo de renta básica garantizada en un grupo de 729 familias de bajos ingresos de áreas rurales de los estados de Iowa y Carolina del Norte, en un período de 3 años *. Además de los aspectos laborales implicados también el experimento analizó otros aspectos cuentos como la estabilidad familiar, las diversas formas de consumo y el rendimiento escolar de los niños y adolescentes. A través del uso de herramientas sonoras y visuales, SR10 refleja la colisión de la naturaleza y la tecnología, y cómo esta interrupción puede llevar a cabo nuevas formas de conceptualizar la sociedad.

 

 

 

La pieza busca extender la reflexión del impacto económico que tuvo tanto en zonas rurales como urbanas la introducción de aplicaciones que combinan tecnologías con sistemas que integran el uso de la inteligencia artificial. La resolución de problemas unidos a la automatización de ciertos procesos ha cambiado las reglas del juego para muchos trabajos anteriores en el dominio de manos humanas, la rapidez de estos cambios supone incertidum bre en los puestos de trabajo que se ofertarán en el futuro. Por lo tanto, se ha vuelto a poner sobre la mesa las complicaciones sobre la implementación del ingreso básico universal o UBI (ingreso básico universal) como un sistema que le permite a los ciudadanos tener sus necesidades básicas cubiertas, de forma a concentrarse en vivir y no en sobrevivir.

They are not cut yet but their luck is already sentenced.
About 60 trees leave their home in the north wing of the Weimarhallenpark to make room for the new residence of the Neues Bauhaus-Museum.

Birds, bats, banks and the others trees will say goodbye to this group of future outcasts.

adieu is an interactive sound-installation that wants to offer the opportunity to Weimarers and other habitants of the city that usually dwell this park to join this mourning’s chorus and begin to say goodbye to the each other.
If the plan is accurate, only five trees located on the other side of the road will survive in its current position and they will be the witnesses of the announced arrival of the new neighbour of 30 meters.

 

Weimar in Germany has currently nine big parks and the Weimarhallenpark is the only one in the centre of the city. This park was and is a very popular venue for adults and children.

On the other hand Weimar is very well know for be the first quarter of Bauhaus, the school of art founded by Walter Gropius in 1919. Since 1995 a temporary building houses the Bauhaus Museum Weimar that shows a small part of the collection that represent the architectural style of Bauhaus.

Around 2008 the city began planning the construction of a new Bauhaus Museum to replace the existing today, which is too small to host the complete actual collection.

After a huge competition and the redesign of the district planning law the winner was chose in 2012.

Around April 2014 Mr. Röhrich an inhabitant of the city, who grew up and has lived most of his life in the surroundings of the Weimarhallenpark area, contact me with the aim to create a strategy that allowed him to make duel with his memories an the new changes.

The construction of the Neues Bauhaus Museum will remove Mr. Rörich’s preferred wood bench in the Weimarhallenpark as well as the sixty trees that are behind of it. When we began to talk bout his feeling was clear that the result of our actions would be therapeutic art.

The first strategy was to visit the park regularly every Sunday between 11 and 14 hrs. In those sessions, we interviewed locals about their memories in the park as well as their opinion about the site chosen to the construction of the new museum.

I taught to Mr. Röhrich how to manage a Blog and between April and May 2014 he wrote the texts and I was in charge to the sound recordings. The title chosen by him was: Bauhaus oder Hausbau?.

On this process I noticed how the opinions about the places were more frequent than the memories of the place, also because many of the interviewees not grew in Weimar, they arrived in the city after.
Despite the difficulties was possible to collect some of the recollections and create an album, named Bürger zum Weimarhallenpark.   

Our fieldwork led me to a few insights that have implications for design an interactive installation and the potential ways of using sound in public spaces and creates an intersection between memory and time.

As the future of the trees is that they will be cut in the autumn of 2014 I choose the Sunday 28 of September as the day to install the piece.

adieu consisted in nine audio tracks of branches being cut with mowers an the sound of trees falling on the grass.

The original idea consisted that at different distances, different audios will be activated with the pass of the pedestrians, but the constant overlapping of tracks showed that it was better to use a single composed track.

The audios were reproduced in the site, and a red and white construction tape was installed around the area of the trees that will be cut, pretended to foresee the future outlook of the area and evoke in the citizens a spirit of solidarity with the trees as well as a moment of mourning and farewell.

Also I provided some yellow labels where people could write messages and leave them hanging in the trees.

Technical Aspects:

To the Audio Installation I used one board of Arduino Duemilanove with a WaveAudio Shield, the use of the Arduino AF_Wave library and a SD card, nine uncompressed 22KHz, 12 bit, mono Wave (.wav) and a pair of head speakers, also a PING))) Ultrasonic Distance Sensor.

For the Audio edition I use the programs Cubase LE AI Elements 6 and Audacity.

Alphabet der Vier Elemente / Alphabet of Four Elements is a permanent interactive installation, inspired and created in the frame of the workshop: Fahrradnixen- LandArt of Ilmtal-Radweg at Kromsdorf-Germany 

The Ilmtal-Radweg is the most popular cycle route in Thuringia and 4-star quality cycling route. The path of the route is near to the Ilm river that creates the perfect scenario to combine nature and cycling.

The frame of the workshop was precisely explore this relation. Cycling and mermaids were called.

In order to enable the communication between humans and mermaids and also the other elements around, I used the Alphabet of the Magi invented in the 16th century by Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim (also known as Paracelsus). He used it in his time to engrave the names of angels on talismans which he claimed could treat illnesses and provide protection.

This interactive sculpture allows visitors to write little messages (with the letters mounted in the bicycle wheels) that later others can decode and read and also leave new messages, providing the possibility to continuous communication.
